Academies and sixth-form colleges
that are eligible for main round CIF funding, are also eligible for UCS (Urgent Capital Support).
Applications for UCS should only be made when an eligible school has urgent need to address condition issues. The DfE class issues as ‘urgent; if they jeopardise either, the health and safety of pupils and/or threatens the closure of the whole, or a significant part of, the school.
Examples of issues which can be funded through UCS,
if deemed urgent, include:

Structural issues

Urgent Health and Safety Issues

Asbestos removal

Insurance Compliance issues

Fire protection
-
Roof leaks
-
Boiler and pipework failure

Electrical issues
The DfE will only consider applications where the schools cannot fund the works; independently, through RPA or through their insurance.
UCS applications will need to provide evidence of:

Significant health and safety risk in relation to the identified issue

The condition issue representing, or resulting in a threat of school closure
-
The condition issue resulting in or risking imminent closure of a significant part of the school
-
The inability for works to be funded elsewhere
